Children’s Swimming Lessons

Our Swim Excellence Academy classes are arranged according to your child’s swimming experience and confidence.

Classes are designed for children aged between 3-14 years. Each class is 30 minutes and filled with productive learning as well as interactive games and activities. All of our academy classes incorporate into lessons water safety techniques.

Beginners

  • Suitable for children 3.5yrs+ who are confident to get into the water
  • Swimmers wear flotation aids for assistance
  • Work towards safe entries and exit
  • Submerging under water
  • Work on floating positions front and back
  • Learning how to push & glide into streamline positions
  • Learning to kick and paddle on their front and back covering 5-10 metre practices
  • Introducing safety techniques

Advanced Beginner

  • Suitable for children 3.5yrs+ who are confident to get into the water
  • Swimmers wear flotation aids for assistance
  • Work towards safe entries and exit
  • Submerging under water
  • Work on floating positions front and back
  • Learning how to push & glide into streamline positions
  • Learning to kick and paddle on their front and back covering 5-10 metre practices
  • Introducing safety techniques

Beginners+

  • Swimmers will use a swimming aid whilst developing strokes

     

  • Learning Frontcrawl, Backcrawl and Breaststroke arms and legs
  • Progressing with streamline position into strokes
  • Work towards swimming 10 metres Frontcrawl and Backcrawl without the use of aids, stroke will be recognisable and continuous
  • Work towards swimming 5 – 10 metres Breaststroke without the use of aids, stroke will be recognisable and continuous
    Introduce butterfly leg kick
  • Progress with water safety techniques
  • Introduce diving

Improver 1

  • Breathing practices and techniques are the main emphasis in this class.
  • Developing the understanding of buoyancy through a range of skills
  • Focus on refining kicking technique for all strokes
  • Swimming 10 metres Frontcrawl with bilateral breathing
  • Swimming 10 metres Breaststroke with breathing
  • Swimming 10 metres Backcrawl
  • Swimming 5 metre Butterfly leg kick
  • Progress with diving
  • Progress with water safety techniques

Improver 2

  • Stroke technique & stroke efficiency are the main emphasis in this class
  • Develop and concentrate on water safety skills through sculling actions and treading water
  • Working on co-ordinating breathing for strokes
  • Introduce Butterfly full stroke
  • Swim using efficient technique 25 metres
  • Frontcrawl with bilateral breathing, 25 metre Backcrawl, 25 metre Breaststroke with correct timing on breathing
  • Swim 10 metres Butterfly, stroke should be recognisable and continuous
  • Progress with diving techniques
    Introduce starts, touch turns and finishes

Improver 3

  • Perform all types of touch turns and tumble turn
  • Progressing to Swim 50 metres + showing efficient technique in all strokes
  • Develop water safety aspects and an understanding for preparation for exercise
  • Perform effective water safety rescue and survival techniques
  • Proficiently demonstrate different types of diving

Academy Challenge Swimming

  • Can swim 100 metres + and demonstrate 3 strokes with correct breathing
  • Swimmers will develop stroke technique, stamina and speed
  • Swimmers will develop rescue and survival skills
  • Swimmers will work on Bronze, Silver and Gold Advanced Swimmer and Advanced
  • Water Safety Awards
  • Swimmers who do not want to go down the route of competitive swimming can continue to swim and follow a progressive fitness programme in this class.

Academy STA Junior Lifeguard Academy

  • Swimmers must be 8 years+ and Can swim 50 metres with efficient technique on 3 strokes

  • Fun packed programme offers
  • something for everyone, from lifeguarding skills and first aid, to ocean awareness, distance, sports skills and health and wellbeing.

  • The first step in Junior Lifeguard Academy is completing the Seal Series, learners will attain survival and rescue skills that can save lives.
  • Learners can also take part in the Academy’s 40 special missions whilst completing the Seal Awards. The awards include everything from lifeguard and sport skills to boogie board, snorkelling, ocean awareness, open water swimming and distance skills.
